Ault House

Commissioned in 1952 by Lee Ault, an art collector and publisher of Art in America, the Ault House is a modernist house designed by Eliot Noyes in New Canaan, CT.

DEMO has been commissioned an extensive renovation of the interior and exterior of the house. The layout will remain mainly true to the 1950s design, with a large kitchen replacing the former housekeeper’s quarter. New windows matching the original in size but with better soundproofing and thermal efficiency are specified throughout the dwelling. The deteriorating interior bluestone floors will be replaced with oak floors to create a warmer feeling in the space, add insulation and improve the overall comfort of the house.

All planned interventions are as minimal and as invisible as possible to preserve as much of the original structure and materials while preserving the structure, updating its mechanical systems, and making sure this house can be enjoyed by its owners for a long time to come.
