Green Barn

An old barn, reinvented.

Our client approached us with the idea to convert an abandoned animal barn from the early 1900s into a small 3-bedroom house.

We tried to maintain as much as possible of the existing structure, revealing the existing oak beams, all the while insulating and sealing the envelope well beyond the requirement of energy code to create a comfortable, healthy, and energy-efficient modern home.

The volume is wrapped with green metal roofing to protect it from the elements, and an extension on the south provides ample space to the master bedroom and a terrace for the living space on the second floor.
